This is an e-book in evolution. I am using a blog format to publish it chapter by chapter. The natural order is, of course, to first read chapter 1, and then chapter 2 etcetera – which requires you to scroll down to the first chapter – but you can also start reading from the last published chapter.
At the surface, it is a story about men and women falling in love with a machine. As such, it may remind one of Robert Epstein, the man who fell in love with a chatterbot posing as an attractive Russian brunette. At a deeper level, I want to explore the blurring of the frontier between virtual and… well… real reality. It also develops some more philosophical thoughts about the potential limits of artificial intelligence (and artificial consciousness). Last but not least, it explores its potential impact on society – and on politics and government in particular.
I am quite aware of the fact that there is a whole body of literature dealing with the man-machine relationship – and much of it focused on AI – and that I should probably not try to add to that – most of all because I have no clue whatsoever about the topic (and so I should probably use my time to read instead of writing). So I am not sure where this story will go. Not all that far probably. But perhaps it will make you smile a couple of times. That’s the objective really. Oh – and one final note: I am not a native English speaker so I hope the contents will compensate for the lack of style.
I also know it’s quite a chunk already – and this is only Part I so far (chapter 1 to 16). Perhaps I should stop writing. Perhaps I will. After all, I want you to think about this. Any comments?
This is a terrific start. IMHO you should definitely keep going!
